What is art??  Well this is a broad topic and thankfully it is.  We live in a beautiful world filled with so many different styles that can reach a wide audience.  There is something for everyone you just need to explore to find out what your style is, your Gig, your creative outlet!

                                   LET’S EXPLORE THE ART WORLD

At Made By Me Art Studios we help you learn and explore the many facets of art by offering different art projects that will help you find your creative outlet.

Art Periods:

There are too many to name but just a few are; Art Deco, Nouveau, Abstract, Assemblage, Cubism, contemporary, Expressionism, Fine Art, Folk Art, Graffiti/street Art, Gothic Art, Impressionism, Minimalism, modern Art, Pop Art, Realism, Renaissance, Surrealism,

Styles of art:

Architecture, ceramics, Crafts, design, drawing, filmmaking,  painting, Photography, Printmaking, sculpture, textiles, video

The world of materials:

Where would we be without them?  Art can be made with different materials (mediums) to create a style of art.  Some examples would be: Clay, wood, metal, paper, glass, paint, ink, charcoal, graphite textiles and not to forget foods.  Artists use them for their different qualities to achieve the look they are after.

You also have performing arts such as Dance, Drama, Literature, Poetry, Music… and don’t forget the Culinary Arts; cooking, sugar arts and the chocolate artistry.

I like to think of art speaking to our 5 senses; Seeing, Hearing, Taste, Touch and smell.  Let’s break it down into these categories.

SEEING and TOUCH:

 We have for example the visual Arts.  It is a form of expression using different Materials and methods to create something that is beautiful to the artist creating the masterpiece.  That is why there are so many different styles of art.   Art is the form of personal expression. You know the saying  “One man's trash is another man's treasure” ..this can be compared to the visual arts.  Art is in the eye of the beholder, it's what YOU see OR feel as beautiful or neat.

Let's take a look at the art form of scrapbooking (paper crafting).  Scrapbooking was such a hit in the early 2000’s because it was a style of expression for the person creating the books.  People loved it because it was a form of art that almost anyone could do and it evoked expression  towards something that was important to them,  usually their family and friends…using the material paper.  Even though it is not as popular as it once was, it is still holding strong.

SEEING AND HEARING:

The same can be told about the performing arts.

Let's think about music like art materials or even the art style of Mixed Media.  You have an array of musical instruments; the flute, horn, violin, harp, drums, symbols etc. all playing together to create a beautiful note(music) Have you ever listened to music and it gives you goosebumps, gives you energy or calms you. This is art…art that you feel with your ears.  Once again the same piece of music can have this effect on one person but not the other.  Just another example as to why art is so personal and can touch each person in a specific and different way.

In the same family you would have the opera. Opera uses both the performing arts such as theatrical, singing and music all put together to tell a story to evoke emotion to the viewer.

 Let's think of it in terms of today's music.  We have pop, heavy metal, rock, jazz, punk etc.   When you go to a concert to see your favorite band the artist is usually visually stimulating.  It's like you can feel the music coming through them. The music is a part of the artist.

HEARING:

The beauty of words.  Have you ever really thought about poetry as art.  Once again you are taking different materials in this case they are all the same (words) but they are words with different meanings and history to each.  All put together to create a beautiful sentence….poetry.  When you listen to poetry you are listening to someone's heart being expressed onto paper through the beauty of words.

Let's look at William Shakspears famous poem

                              Sonnet 18

“Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?

Thou art more lovely and more temperate:

Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,

And summer’s lease hath all too short a date;

Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,

And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;

And every fair from fair sometime declines,

By chance or nature’s changing course untrimm'd;

But thy eternal summer shall not fade,

Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st;

Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade,

When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st:

   So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,

   So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.”

TASTE, SMELL, SEEING, TOUCH:

Cooking evokes our senses and is a form of art and expression and therefore is art.  When you order your favorite dish from a restaurant the chef will arranged the food on the plate in such a way that it is art in itself..the chef uses colorful fruits and vegetable to add color to the dish, noodles can add texture and style to the dish…let’s not forget the smell of food…who would have thought that bringing certain spices together could have the consumer saying “Oh my gosh, you HAVE  to taste & smell this”.  For example sweet, salty and spicy are great spices together all different but come together in beautiful harmony to excite our taste buds. Look at the world of deserts!!  Artist create cakes that look life-like, chocolate sculptures that leave you thinking…’How did they make that”

We want to bring the imagination and the hands together to create art, art that speaks to you.  Maybe you will find that you are a Monet, Warhol or shakespeare.  Maybe you find that you love cooking, music, dance or drama.  Let’s have fun exploring all the different mediums the world has to offer and find your creative style and how it speaks to you.

 Let’s find YOUR creative spirit.
